UHC Food Science Program
Located on the New Orleans West Bank, the University of Holy Cross (UHC) Food Science Program offers food science studies focusing in the fields of sustainability, wellness, and food safety. When the program was launched in 2015, it was only the second program of its type at a private school. UHC focuses on job placement in product development and quality assurance for their students, unlike other programs that steer their students solely into research. Through a partnership with Food Safety and Quality Services, Lance provides UHC students with their food safety certification courses, including ServSafe, HACCP and Preventive Controls for Human Food (PCQI), before graduation in order to better prepare students for their careers within the food industry. Founded in 1997 by Debby Newslow and Jon Porter, D.L. The Global Food Defense Institute
The Global Food Defense Institute specializes in food defense and crisis management training and offers onsite vulnerability assessments, including penetration tests, to determine a company’s risk level for intentional adulteration. Food Safety and Quality Services has partnered with GFDI to deliver a “combined” food defense course that incorporates the FSPCA Intentional Adulteration Conducting Vulnerability Assessments course with Rod Wheeler’s “StreetSmart” front line employee training course giving attendees the tools for compliance with FDA’s food defense vulnerability assessments requirements as well as how to respond to crisis situations such as active shooter, workplace violence and product tampering. Louisiana Food Processors Association
Louisiana Food Processors Association (LAFPA) is a non-profit trade association representing and advocating on behalf of Louisiana’s food processing companies. The LAFPA’s mission is to help influence public policy and establish a network of related educational and industry support resources with the single mission of making the State of Louisiana a great place for food processors to do business. The activities of the organization center around the promotion of food technology education, the exchange of information and networking between food processors and suppliers, providing an industry voice and facilitating cooperation with government agencies, and sponsoring training seminars for food professionals.
