FDA & USDA Recall Feeds
Food recalls protect the public from products that may cause injury, illness or even death. Food products are recalled to remove them from the marketplace because there is reason to believe the products may be defective, adulterated, contaminated, misbranded or mislabeled. Food Safety & Quality Services’ recall feed posts real-time notices of recalls from the FDA and the USDA. Food companies can use these feeds to monitor suppliers as well as industry trends in order to be proactive in preventing their own recalls.
FDA Recall Feed
Food recalls are removals of foods from the market that are in violation of the US Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) regulations. FDA regulates all foods except meat, poultry, and processed egg products, which are regulated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). It is important that consumers be aware of recalls because recalled foods may cause injury or illness, especially for people who are pregnant or have weakened immune systems because of chronic illness or medical treatment.
USDA Recall Feed
A U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) recall is a firm’s voluntary removal of distributed meat, poultry, or egg products from commerce when there is reason to believe those products are adulterated or misbranded under the provisions of the Federal Meat Inspection Act (FMIA), Poultry Products Inspection Act (PPIA), or Egg Products Inspection Act (EPIA).
